Welcome to our Website!
There's a variety of information here regarding our congregation. Lutherans are Bible-believing, sacramental Christians who trace their roots back to Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation. There have been Lutherans since 1517, particularly in Germany and Scandanavia. Lutherans in America followed large immigrations from Europe in the 1840's and 1850's.
The congregation at Grace was founded in 1937 in a small room over a pool hall on State Street in New Albany. The congregation moved to Tenth and Oak, then to Charlestown Road, before building its current facilities on Klerner Lane in 1974. The congregation now numbers just over 1100 souls. We worship at 8:00 and 10:30 on Sundays and at 6:30 PM during the summer months on Monday evenings. The pastors are Rev. Bruce Kischnick and Rev. Matt Woods.
Someone recently asked why anyone might be interested in attending Grace Lutheran Church. The response went something like this:
1) Here the Word of God is held in high regard and preached in both its Law and its Gospel.
2) Here the Sacraments of Baptism and Communion are celebrated as gifts and great blessings from God.
3) Here people are cared for, helped, and grown to be all that God intended them to be spiritually and in service to Him in his Kingdom.
4) Here the youth and youngsters are helped to grow in Jesus through knowledge and interaction.
5) Here are God's people: saints and sinners, forgiven and forgiving, growing and serving together.
6) Here Jesus is the focus of our worship, the means of our salvation, and the one to whom we look with hope.
